  • Description

The King and Queen of Greece, with other members of the Royal Family including the Crown Prince Constantine, sailed to Suda Bay, Crete, recently on board the Royal Greek Navy destroyer "Polemistis". They went to unveil a statue of Prince George, the former High Commissioner of Crete and the first Greek representative there after the liberation from the Turks, some sixty years ago.

Prince George's widow, Princess Maria Bonaparte, uncle of King Paul of Greece, attended the To Deum and unveiling ceremony. Gathered round the Royal visitors were Cretans in traditional custome, some of whom, the older inhabitants that is, remember Prince George and the liberation.
