  • Description

In Brooklyn, Oct 20, police seized a consignment of 420 gambling machines.

Nearly crated, the slot machines are valued at a quarter-million dollars. FBI agents headed by Harvey Foster stepped in as the machines pulled up today on the Brooklyn waterfront. The machines were turned over to the First Army and stored in one of their Brooklyn warehouses. Agents had been trailing the trucks and their cargo all the way from Newport, Kentucky, to Brooklyn. Then, as the trailer-trucks arrived, the "one-armed bandits" were confiscated under a law prohibiting their transportation over a state line.

The consignment was to be shipped to England, and its seizure puts a dent into an international organisation that was moving in on British gambling with row upon row of ..."sixpence-in-the-slot" machines.
