Background: The Sprint, a new interceptor missile against Intercontinental missiles, has been successfully tested by the Department of Defence.
The Sprint was launched from an above ground launcher, although the missile is being designed for launchings from underground cells. Previous tests of the launch cell ejection system have been successful.
The Sprint is being developed as an interceptor missile for the Nike-X defense system to destroy attacking ICBM's and intermediate range ballistic missiles of the submarine launched type. The Sprint will be the first ground-launched missile to be popped from its cells rather than flown out.
The test shown in our film was for the propulsion and structure of the Sprint. Department of Defense are pleased with the results.
