Background: Supporters of Mr. Michael Abu Jawdeh, the journalist, burned car tyres in Beirut on Thursday (July 4) to protest over his kidnapping. Mr. Rbu Jawdeh was snatched at gun point by four men last night. The motive for the kidnapping isn't known.

Today supporters of Mr. Abu set fire to car tyres across the north and south highway out of Beirut in protest over the kidnapping. An estimated 20-thousand cars and their holiday making passengers were stopped and the road quickly became jammed.

Police have mounted a full scale search for the journalist but so far they have no clues. The kidnapping seems to be without motive.

Mr. ???ou Jawdeh is a popular columnist on the mass circulation newspaper An Nahar.
