WARSAMA: "Mister President, it has been one of the most successfully executed illusions of our time, that the Zionists have succeeded as long as they did in persuading powerful sections of the international community that they were the champions of democracy, of humanity, and for peace and progress in the Middle East. The picture has become clearer in recent times. It is now possible to place in true perspective the actions of a state founded on principles of racial superiority and exclusivity and which makes third class citizens of its own European and Arab population. Of a state which has closely aligned itself with the powers of the international community in Southern Africa and with oppressive regimes in other counties and which even no oppressive regimes, even now continues to intensify the scope of its illegal occupation of Arab territories in defiance of the will of the international community and principles of international law."



BLUM: "Pointing equally to the core of the Middle East conflict, has been the historical reaction of the hard line Arab states, to Egypt's readiness to negotiate with Israel. It is not this or that provision in the Camp David accords to which the rejectionist object, but to the very fact of the recognition of Israel's existence, which will be endorsed by the signing of the peace treaty. Therefore, from the outset of the current peace process, the Libyan, Syrian, Iraqi axis at the head of the Arab rejectionist camp have not left one stone unturned in its efforts to undermine the prospects of peace. Against every phase in the peace process this rejectionist boycott has tried to raise barriers. On the basic question before us today, the choice before the General Assembly is clear. It can regurgitate the sterile and time-worn slogans of the rejectionists, who still seek a solution without Israel, or it can lend its support to the process of peace through negotiations which has yielded more in the last twelve months, than thirty years of war and conflict. Israel, the Jewish people, and the Hebrew culture inherited, have been an integral part of Middle Eastern history from the dawn of civilization. They will continue to be so in the future."

One African speaker, Somalia's representative, Mr. Abdeldakir Warsama, was highly critical of what he called Israel's defiance of the international community.
