SYNOPSIS: At Mount Stanley, Congo-Kinshasa's head of state President Joseph Mobutu returned to affairs of state after his sad journey up country to attend the funeral of his mother last month. His first duty was to give audience to Congolese Ambassadors from abroad.
While the President listened, the condolences and sympathy of the diplomats were expressed by Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Cardoso.
Later, in the gardens of Mount Stanley, the President and his Ambassadors had an informal stroll. But their meeting was also an opportunity for the head of state to brief his diplomats on Congolese policy at a time when the country had decided to boycott the Organisation of African Unity summit, and has reaffirmed opposition to a dialogue with South Africa.
