IN A SPEECH PREPARED FOR DELIVERY AT A BANQUET IN BLANTYRE, CHIEF JONATHAN CONDEMNED AFRICAN LEADERS WHO CRITICISED BLACK STATES ALREADY COOPERATING WITH WHITE SOUTHERN AFRICA.

BOTH MALAWI AND LESOTHO RELY ECONOMICALLY ON TRADE WITH TWO NEIGHBOURING WHITE COUNTRIES - SOUTH AFRICA AND MOZAMBIQUE. CHIEF JONATHAN'S OFFICIAL POLICY IS TO COOPERATE WITH SOUTH AFRICA WHILE REJECTING THE POLICY OF APARTHEID.

THE MALAWI LEADER, PRESIDENT KAMUZU BANDA, HAS FOR SOME TIME BEEN CRITICAL OF AFRICANS WHO ADVOCATE USING FORCE AGAINST WHITE-RULED STATES.

DURING HIS VISIT CHIEF JONATHAN WILL HAVE DISCUSSIONS WITH MALAWI MINISTERS ON CLOSER COOPERATION IN DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNOLOGY. SHORTLY AFTER HIS ARRIVAL CHIEF JONATHAN HAD A PRIVATE MEETING WITH PRESIDENT BANDA.
