Background: A strong earthquake ripped through Los Angeles today (Tuesday) killing at least five people and causing widespread damage and fires. The quake has reawakened fears of an often predicted earthquake in San Francisco similar to the one early this century which virtually levelled the city. San Francisco lies directly on a fault line which skirts Los Angeles.
