  • Description

The Shah of Iran and his wife, Empress Farah, are visiting Yugoslavia at the invitation of President Tito, on the first leg of a ten-day East European tour that will include stops in Rumania and Bulgaria. President Tito invited the Shah to visit Yugoslavia when he was in Iran for the celebrations marking two thousand five hundred years of the President empire.

The personal welcome extended by President Tito was seen as important in itself, as the Yugoslav President, who's just turned 81, is supposed to be giving up such ceremonial duties for health reasons.

On the second day of the Shah's visit, the President accompanied the Royal visitors to Ljubljana and nearby centres. Later the Shah and Empress Farah visited the Slovenian Assembly House and were feted at a special dinner.

The two leaders, meeting for the fourth time, are to have official talks at Priori, President Tito's Adriatic Island residence. The talks are expected to include a review of current world affairs centring on recent developments in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. They'll also discuss expanding long-term economic co-operation between Yugoslavia and Iran.
