  • Description

Welshman Ray Reardon won the Embassy World Professional Snooker Championship for the fourth time when he defeated Alex "Hurricane" Higgins in Manchester on Friday night (23 April).

In the final frame of his 27-16 victory, Reardon had scored a 25 break with ended when he failed to sink a red ball in the middle pocket.

His Belfast opponent returned to the table and took the rare step of conceding victory after missing a shot.

Reardon was never really troubled by Higgins. He played confidently and smoothly with a style that has marked him one of Britain's greatest players since the legendary Joe Davis.

Reardon won 6,000 pounds sterling (about 10,000 dollars U.S.) for winning the title which was contested by the world's top professional snooker players.
