    John Surtees, Britain's 38-year-old former would racing champion, picked up two million yen (GBP2,500) prize money at Shizuoka on Wednesday (May 3) when he won the Japanese Grand Prix after leading the field from the start.

    The 50-lap race at Fuji Speedway Course beneath Mount Fuji, -- about 60 miles (100 kilometres) west of Tokyo -- is 129 miles (215 km) long. Surtees covered it in one hour eight minutes and 37 seconds.

    In second place was the Japanese driver, Hiromu Tanaka, with another Japanese driver, Hiroshi Fushida, in third place.
