Background: Soccer....and as World Cup holders West Germany prepare themselves for the defence of their title in Argentina this June, several new players are emerging as successful replacements to the 1974 cup-winning side. One man in particular has been given the task of main goal-scorer. He is Klaus Fischer of Schalke 04 team, already regarded as the best centre-forward in the West German Bundesliga (first division) and widely acclaimed as the worthy successor to Gerd Muller -- West Germany's most dynamic goal-scorer in recent years.

SYNOPSIS: Flash-back to last November's West German league match between Schalke 04 and Hamburg SV. And Fischer makes it one-nil....The same goal seen in slow motion and Fischer's control and accurate shooting is self-evident.

The same match and Klaus Fischer scores a second to put his team two-nil up....And again the slow motion replay shows his close control in tight situations.

Fischer has been playing for Schalke 04 since 1970, and, well established as the team's main striker, he enjoys all the trimmings of success. A moment's relaxation before the big game and he is ready to face the 60,000 fans who crowd into Gelsenkirchen's stadium.

Apart from being a prolific goal scorer, seven in his five internationals for West Germany -- he is also an accurate passer of the ball ...and always willing to try the unexpected.

As befits a man earmarked to replace Gerd Muller, opposition defences keep a close rein on him, though he takes the knocks professionally.

Schalke playing in white this time against Dusseldorf, and Fischer demonstrates his determination to score.....That goal which was voted January goal of the month by West German television viewers, shows why West German football fans are sure that defences in Argentina are going to have a lot of trouble with Klaus Fischer.
