Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, look back on a reign marked by major social changes at home and a policy aborad evolving out a Britain's new place in the world. No longer the major power ti was at the start of World War Two, Britain is about to move into anew position within Europe as one of the participants in the European Common Market.

In the changing world, The Queen and Prince Philip still hold a high place of esteem, despite some weakening of the traditional reverence for royalty.

Queen Elizabeth, now forty-six and the Duke, 51, have four children. They are third cousins, both great-great-grandchildren of Queen Victoria. Prince Philip was introduced into the Royal circle in the 1930's at a time when Princess Elizabeth's friends were being carefully handpicked.

The couple corresponded during World War Two when Prince Philip went to sea in the Royal Navy. After the war their courtship was discreet. Prince Philip's British nationality and their engagement were announced in July 1947. They were married on the 20th of November that year, and the following year the Princess gave birth to her first son, Prince Charles. Within five years her father King George VI died and she was crowned Queen.

In public Prince Philip is obliged to remain a discreet pace behind the queen, rather than at her side. However, his speeches are more fort-right, his jokes a shade more barbed than those normally expected from a royal personage. He has become a patron to hundreds of institutions, especially those concerned with technology and athletic pursuits for the young. With the Queen, and sometimes without her, the Prince had travelled thousands of miles on official missions round the world.

The private tastes of the Royal couple do not always coincide. The Queen has a well known interest in horse racing while the Prince prefers to pilot light aircraft and lay polo.

The Queen likes country ??? peoples food television and watching films played specially for ??? Buckingham palace.

The Silver Wedding day is expected to be celebrated quietly. The Queen will attend a thanksgiving service and an official lunch with the Lord Mayor of London. She will also take a walk round the inner city of London to meet her subjects.

SYNOPSIS: The Royal Silver Wedding Anniversary of the British Monarch, Queen Elizabeth the Second and her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, is to be celebrated quietly on the 20th of November. The Queen is to attend a thanksgiving service after which she will meet her subjects while on a tour of the inner city of London.

Princess Elizabeth and Philip, once Prince Philip of Greece are third cousins, great-great-grandchildren of Queen Victoria. Their courtship was discreet for fear of arousing attention. Prince Philip took out British nationality after World War Two and on July 1947 their engagement was announced.

The wedding in November that year, was full of royal pageantry. Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip were married by the Archbishop of Canterbury in Westminster Abbey. The Royal bride was given away by her father, King George the Sixth. She wore and ivory satin gown embroidered with seed pearls and crystal, with a fifteen foot train of ivory tulle. Her veil was held in place by a diamond tiara. Her sister Princess Margaret, was chief bridesmaid.

The couple spent the first part of their honeymoon at Broadlands in Hampshire, home of the bridegroom's uncle, Earl Mountbatten. After a visit to the Scottish Highlands, they returned to Clarence House, their home in London.

Within a year the Princess gave birth to her first son ??? heir to the ???rone, Prince Charles. He was born at Buckingham palace on the 14th of November 1948.

On August the 15th 1950, a daughter was born to Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. She was christened at Buckingham Palace on 21st of October that year, in the names Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise.

On Coronation day, the 2nd of June 1953, Princess Elizabeth was crowned Queen of the British Commonwealth. She had been on a Royal Tour of Africa when she heard of the death of her father in February 1952. She was crowned in a ceremony at Westminster Abbey, seen by millions of people as television cameras recorded the service for the first time. That same year, the Queen and Prince Philip made a six month tour of the Commonwealth.

Almost seven years after her Coronation, Queen Elizabeth gave birth to her second son, Prince Andrew. Four years alter in March 1964 she bore a third son, Prince Edward.

The private interests of the royal couple do not always coincide. The Queen has a well known interest in horse racing while Prince Philip prefers to play polo. But when it comes to sailing the royal yacht 'Bloodhound', they like doing it together.
