    THE 1961 GERMAN INDUSTRIAL FAIR OPENED IN WEST BERLIN OCT. 14. FOR THE FIRST TIME NO EAST BERLINERS OF EAST GERMANS CAN VISIT THE FAIR WHICH LASTS UNTIL OCT. 29.

    TOURING THE FAIR AT THE INAUGURATION WAS U.S. GENERAL (RETIRED) LUCIUS CLAY, SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE IN WEST BERLIN OF U.S. PRESIDENT KENNEDY, AND FORMER U.S. MILITARY GOVERNOR OF GERMANY DURING THE BERLIN BLOCKADE OF 1948-49. ACCOMPANYING HIM WERE WEST BERLIN MAYOR WILLI BRANDT AND WEST GERMAN ECONOMIC MINISTER LUDWIG ERHARD.

    AFTER INSPECTING WEST GERMAN EXHIBITS THEY TOURED THE FOREIGN SECTION AND SAW AMONG OTHERS THE PAVILIONS OF FRANCE AND HOLLAND.
