SYNOPSIS: Buenos Aires...and the arrival on Saturday of Paraguay's President Alfredo Stroessner.

President Stroessner was given a welcome befitting his status as a Head of State. And among those at Buenos Aires airport to greet him was Argentina's President Alejandro Lanusse. Speaking on his arrival, President Stroessner said he hoped his visit would lead to increased trade between paraguay and Argentina. In reply, President Lanusse welcomed his guest to Argentina as a blood and spiritual brother. The official visit--President Stroessner's first to Argentina in more than six years--lasted three days.

The two Presidents had a lot to discuss. Among the subjects were trade and increased technical co-operation, including construction of a hydro-electric station along the Parana river, part of the border between the two countries.

The two Presidents attended the opening of Argentina's annual rural fair, at which the country's agricultural wealth goes on display. Also there were representatives of Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Uruguay. A traditional band played to welcome the visiting President, the first Paraguayan leader to visit the fair in fifty-two years.

Perhaps one of the most important discussions during the talks between the two Presidents centred on the Parana river project. Not only is the river a source of future electric power, but it is an important trading link between the two nations.
