  • Description

A British Member of Parliament today (April 24) set up a new, world non-stop walking record, smashing the previous record of 230 miles (371 Kms) by 25 miles (40 Kms).

Mr. Dick Crawshaw, who is 54, completed 156 laps or a 1.6 mile (2.57 Kms) motor-racing circuit near Liverpool, in 76 hours, 21 minutes. Apart from bleeding toes and a slight limp, the Labour MP looked fit afterwards.

His walk was sponsored by other Members of Parliament, and was expected to raise about three-thousand-pounds for a children's charity.

He also achieved a personal ambition of beating the 250-mile (420 Kms) barrier, believed by many to be a men's walking limit.
