The Italian team won the International Continental Cycling Race in Munich on Sunday (23 May). Their time of 2 hours 13 Minutes and 29 Seconds was more than two minutes better than the second place team from Poland, in this pre-Olympic 100 kilometre test. Czechoslovakia finished third.
A total of twenty teams from twelve Continental countries took part in the race, which was held on Munich-Penzberg autobahn. The teams, together with their accompanying service vans, left the starting point at two minute intervals. Only three of the starting teams were unable of finish.
The event is one of several trial sporting events being held in West Germany, in preparation for the 1972 Summer Olympic Games to be held in Munich.
