Background: In Italy, the search for kidnapped United States Brigadier-General James Dozier has led to the discovery of some sensational terrorist plots. Scores of suspects have been arrested in the massive search for the north Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) officer and several potentially fatal terrorist outrages averted after information gleaned from 32 suspected Red Brigades guerrillas. Police say one plan discovered was for a rocket attack on Rome's police headquarters building, now heavily guarded, and an even more audacious terrorist assault was planned for Friday (22 January) at the ruling Christian Democratic Party headquarters in the capital. Many of the party's members of parliament were in the building at the time for a televised debate. Police made a rigorous search of all those entering after the discovery of the plot. Rocket-grenades, bazookas and other weapons have been captured in these latest round-ups. In another incident two alleged arms dealers were found dead in their car in a lake near rome. Police think they were killed by terrorists afraid the two might pass vital information to the authorities who suspect that several foreign groups are linked to terrorism in Italy.
