Background: A 26-year-old Californian woman gave birth to sextuplets in San Jose on Sunday (December 8) -- bringing the number of babies she has borne in the past 13 months to a total of 10.
All the quadruplets born to Mrs. to Mrs. Charlotte Lange, wife of a San Jose security guard, died last year. And this week, doctors have been fighting for the lives of five of the sextuplets -- one had died about three hours after birth.
When the babies were filmed, in an intensive care unit on Monday, they were described as being in a very fragile condition. The babies had been born three months prematurely, and weighed between one pound 15 ounces (0.87 kgs) to two pounds eight ounces (1.13 kgs).
The mother, who had been taking a fertility drug, was reported to be in a good condition after the seven and a half hours of labour.
