  • Description

After relaxing in the warm sunshine of Puerto Rico over the week-end, US President Eisenhower arrived back at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, March 7 following his Latin-America goodwill tour. He was met by Vice-President Nixon and the icy blast of wintry weather now sweeping America's Atlantic coastline.

Accompanying the President from Puerto Rico were his daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. They had flown out to greet his son John who had accompanied his father on the 15,500 mile tour.

Back in Washington the President was confronted with two immediate situations. The continuing Senate filibuster by Southern state Senators in their attempts to block passage of the Civil Rights bill; and the New Hampshire primaries. First skirmish of the US Presidential campaign.
