Background: Brazilian bantam-weight boxing champion Eder Jofre was given a hero's welcome when he arrived home at Sao Paulo, Brazil, from Los Angeles, United States of America. He knocked out Eloy Sanchez (Mexico) in the sixth round of their 15-round world championship context, Nov 18, in Los Angeles.
It was an American National Boxing Association promotion the result, therefore, does not have world-wide recognition.
Jofre was carried shoulder-high at the airport. His wife and his father, also his trainer, were with him. A specially decorated fire truck took him on a parade through the city. A band was playing at the first stop, where he was interviewed for television. The parade continued, with people cheering him from the sidewalks.
The next stop, the "Gazeta Esportiva" newspaper building. Jofre was honoured by the director. Then on to the Governor's residence for more congratulations. The parade was soon on its way again .... and Jofre shook hands with the large crowds that walked alongside the truck. He was making his way to the Casa Verde part of the city, where he lives.
