  • Description

An enthusiastic welcome awaited Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip on their arrival at Whitehorse Airport July 20 during their tour of the Yukon --of 'gold-rush' fame. It was the first visit of a reigning sovereign to Canada's northland.

The Queen was without her cheery wave and wide smile as she stepped from the aircraft. Shortly after the royal couple's arrival it was announced that three of Her Majesty's appointments would be cancelled because she was suffering from a mile stomach upset.

She was top have visited the Anglican Cathedral as well as Dawson City and Mayo, but Prince Philip Kept the engagements instead.

A bulletin issued on the Royal Train at Alberta July 21 said; "The Queen is more rested and had recovered from her stomach upset. No further departure from the scheduled programme is anticipated." She has decided to return to Britain by air at the end of her Canadian tour Aug 1, instead of sailing in the Royal yacht from Nova Scotia. The Queen's Press Secretary stated this was because she was anxious to see her children again.
