    THE EIGHT DAY OF THE BELGIAN DOCTOR'S STRIKE...KING BAUDOUIN TODAY (WEDNESDAY) SAW LEADERS OF THE BELGIAN MEDICAL FEDERATION IN AN EFFORT TO END THE STRIKE. TODAY ALSO BROUGHT THE FIRST SIGN OF A CRACK IN THE UNITED FRONT PRESERVED BY THE DOCTORS. THE BRUGES MEDICAL UNION HAS GIVEN PERMISSION TO ITS MEMBERS TO VISIT PATIENTS INT HEIR HOMES INSTEAD OF REFERRING THEM TO THE EMERGENCY SKELETON SERVICE. HOWEVER IN LIEGE, THE DOCTORS' ATTITUDE HAS HARDENED AND THE MEDICAL UNION HAS ASKED ALL DOCTORS ON STRIKE IN THE CITY TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY AND JOIN THE 'MEDICAL MAQUIS' ABROAD. (ABOUT 5,000 SELF-EXILED BELGIAN DOCTORS ARE ALREADY IN LUXEMBOURG, WEST GERMANY, FRANCE AND HOLLAND.)
    ONE OF THE MAIN EFFECTS OF THE STRIKE IS THAT PEOPLE WHO WOULD NORMALLY BE TREATED BY THEIR DOCTORS ARE HAVING TO GO TO HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. THE CIVILIAN HOSPITALS ARE FULL TO OVERFLOWING, AND MORE THAN 500 CIVILIAN PATIENTS ARE BEING TREATED IN THE BRUSSELS MILITARY HOSPITAL. THE ARMY HAS RECALLED MEN FROM GERMANY TO COPE WITH THE FLOOD OF PATIENTS. ARMY DOCTORS AND MEDICAL ORDERLIES ARE TREATING CIVILIANS, WHILE INT HE HOSPITAL'S KITCHENS, ARMY COOKS ARE BUSY PREPARING SPECIAL FOOD FOR THE CIVILIAN PATIENT IN THE WARDS.
