A British couple, who set out riding ponies from lesotho to Munich for the 1972 Olympic Games, left nairobi on Thursday (14 October) in a covered wagon, on the next stage of their 12,000-mile (19,000 Km) journey.

Scottish computer systems analyst Gordon Naysmith, 40, and his wife, age 25, drove their wagon from the Nairobi residence of the Lesotho High Commissioner, D.P. Makoae. Mr. Naysmith said they got the wagon, because his wife got a bit sick with the jolting ride of the ponies. They started off from Masero, Lesotho on 2 November last year.

SYNOPSIS: A British couple left Nairobi on Thursday on the next stage of their twelve-thousand-mile journey from Lesotho to Munich for the 1972 Olympic Games. They had started out riding ponies, but new have switched to a horse-drawn covered wagon.

The couple, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Naysmith, had begun their journey in November of last year. They rode on horseback to Kenya through Lesotho, South Africa, Rhodesia, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia and Tanzania--covering about four-thousand miles. The Naysmiths had started with another couple, who dropped out before the party reached Rhodesia.

The official starting point for this next stage of the Naysmith's journey was the residence of the Lesotho High Commissioner, D.P. Makoae, who bid them farewell.

The wagon was built during the couple's three-week stay in Nairobi. The Naysmiths, who have been married just over a year, hope to be in Munich by August of next year. En route to the Olympic Games, they plan to travel through Addis Ababa, Massawa, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, the Soviet Union, Rumania, Hungary and Austria. Mr. Naysmith says he will take the ponies back to lesotho, after they reached Munich.
