A two-day conference of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of France opened on Thursday at the party's Paris headquarters. The Assistant General Secretary of the party, M. Georges Marchals, was in the chair.
It was M. Marchais who recently introduced the party's new major policy statement, a programme in four sections and 23 chapters offered as a basis of discussion for all parties and organisations seeking a socialist road for France.
The document calls for the elimination of the Presidential system introduced by General de Gaulle, greater powers for Parliament as the voice and instrument of the people, and sweeping nationalisation of the key sectors of the economy, with effective participation by French workers in making nationalisation work for the benefit of the nation.
