Background: The world's largest tent was filmed at Angers, France, Apr. 7. It is manufactured by a firm said to have constructed the first hangers used in the history of aviation.

Made of a double layer of non-inflammable rot-proof plasticated nylon, the tent with its curved roof is 74 yards long, 46 yards wide, and 20 yards high. The skin, which stands up to a pressure of about 5 cwt. per square inch, is inflated in two hours by means of an air pump system. Inflation is at low pressure and can be increased to make the structure safe in winds of 80 mph.

Sausage-shaped bags incorporated in the bottom edge of the skin are filled with sand or water to anchor the tent to the ground. Access is through revolving doors, and zipped flaps provide emergency exits. Interior lighting is supported by plastic skylights; alternatively, the whole tent can be made of translucent materials. An air-conditioning plant solves the problem of ventilation.

Its generous dimensions make the tent ideal as a shelter for sports events. Different versions are designed to house swimming-pools, tennis courts, boxing rings or playing fields for basketball and other indoor games. The tent can also be used as a community centre or for the protection of workmen and machinery on building sites.
