    In the presence of West German President Theodor Heuss, the official opening to the 7-day congress of the International P.E.N. (Poets, Essayists and Novelists.) Club was held in St. Pauls Church, Frankfurt, Germany July 20.

    Other notables attending included India's Vice President, Sir Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, and the President of the International P.E.N. Club, N. Andre Chamson of France.

    P.E.N. is an International association of writers from approximately 60 countries. Every year the Congress is held in a different country. This 30th Congress is presided over by Dr. Erich Kastner of Western Germany.

    The Congress July 20 decided to re-admit the Hungarian P.E.N. centre banned in 1958, but asked it to help free imprisoned Hungarian writers.

    Signor Alberto Moravia (Italy) was elected the next President.

    During the Congress the City of Frankfurt will present the Goethe Memorial Medal to five members.
