    The new British Ambassador to the Republic of Mali Head of State, Colonel Moussa Traore.

    During the ceremony, the new ambassador, Mr. Ivor Forsyth porter, said he was proud to represent Britain in Mali -- a country which like his is dedicated to the principles of peace and friendship between peoples.

    Colonel Moussa Traore said there was a history of contacts between Mali and Britain -- characterised by the visit of the explorer Mungo Park to the Upper Niger late in the eighteenth century.

    SYNOPSIS: At the Government Centre in the Mali capital, Bamako -- the arrival of a diplomatic car bringing the new British Ambassador to present his credentials to Mali's Head of State. the new ambassador was accorded a formal welcome -- and a guard of honour was n hand as he arrived.

    The new ambassador is Mr. Ivor Forsyth Porter -- and he was received by the Head of State, Colonel Moussa Traore. During the ceremony, the new ambassador said he was proud to represent Britain in a country which -- like his -- was dedicated to the principles of peace and friendship between peoples. He said Mali was rightly associated with modern African aspirations -- which lead to a strengthening of links between different nations, and the promotion of well-being for their inhabitants. In reply, Colonel Traore spoke of the long history of contacts between Britain and the people of Mali. He cited the visit of British explorer Mungo Park to the Upper Niger in the late eighteenth century.
