    Fatah leader Yasser Arafat was on Friday (12 January) unanimously re-elected as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation. His appointment came during the sixth and last day of the 11th session of the Palestine National Council in Cairo.

    The Executive Committee was also elected. The majority of the ten-man Committee remained unchanged, with the exception of three new members; Adib Abd Rabou of the People's Democratic Liberation Front for Palestine, Abdul Wehab of the Arab Liberation Front, and Sohdl Al-Neshrshibi, and Independent. Kamel Nasser was re-elected as spokesman for all Palestinian resistance movements.

    Mr. Nasser told newsmen that delegates to the session had also decided to form a new Central Council of about twenty members which would act as a link between the Executive Committee and the full Palestinian movement.

    The final statement issued at the end of the session said: "The Council pledges to continue armed struggle until the Liberation of Palestine."
    SYNOPSIS: The headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo was the venue for a six-day session of the Palestine National Council. It ended with the re-election of Fatah leader Mr. Yasser Arafat as Chairman of the Executive Committee.

    Mr. Arafat thanked the delegates and stressed that the "armed struggle for the liberation of Palestine" would continue....
    The meeting was the Council's eleventh session. The Palestinians decided to form a new Central Council of twenty members to act as a link between he Executive Committee and the full Council. Suggestions were also put forward for a special 'Liberation Tax' on all exiled Palestinians in Arab countries.
