Background: A plane-load of medical supplies was filmed by Visnews May 10 being unloaded at New Delhi airport, India. In response to Indian Premier Nehru's appeal fro medical supplies to treat sick Tibetan refugees, the American emergency committee for Tibetan Refugees despatched the cargo of drugs on its mercy flight.
Organised in New York by American radio commentator Lowell Thomas, the committee is enlisting public support to buy clothing, food and medicine for the thousands of homeless Tibetan refugees seeking sanctuary in India.
Premier Nehru, in a cable to the committee, said the India was badly in need of drugs and medicines. He said that many of the refugees were sick, wounded or threatened with disease.
Volunteers from Indian student bodies and youth groups are organising distribution centres at the camps established by the Indian authorities to ' house ' the pitiful refugees.
Chinese occupation forces in Tibet are putting out a constant harrage of propaganda. One of the Chinese pronouncements is that is no use Tibetans running to India for sanctuary for in a short while China intends taking over India.
