In the United Nations General Assembly debate on the Palestinian question, the Egyptian permanent representative, Mr. Ahmed Meguid, accused Israel of defying United Nations resolutions and the United Nations charter. Mr. Meguid was replying to a statement on Thursday (18 November) by the Israeli ambassador Mr. Chaim Herzog. Mr. Herzog said the General Assembly committee on Palestine was biased and one-sided after it recommended that Israel evacuate occupied Arab territories by next June. Mr. Meguid called Mr. Herzog's statements boring and insulting.
The Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) representative, Mr. Al-Hout, also spoke against the actions of Israel in occupied territories and the Israeli attitude towards the General Assembly committee on Palestine. Mr. Al-Hout said the PLO delegation gave its recognition to the committee of twenty. He said Mr. Herzog had said none of the countries had diplomatic relations with Israel, but Mr. Herzog had not reflected on why this was so. Several other countries have attacked Israel's stand on the occupied territories during the current debate.
