    The largest radio and television exhibition ever to be held in Germany, and the first with international participation, opened in West Berlin on Friday, with 262 firms from 23 countries involved.

    For the first time the Soviet Union was officially participating, and there were also exhibits from Hungary, Poland and Rumania. Japan was the largest foreign exhibitor.

    Among new items on show was a video-cassette system for recording colour television programmes, a video-disc for playing back colour t.v. programmes, and direct-dial car telephone.
