  • Description

Ministers of the fourteen nations African and Madagascar Agency for Air Safety dealt with the difficult task of financing their essential operations all over the continent and the further progress of africanisation.

The President of the meeting in the Togo capital Lome, M. Ayite Mividor the Togolese Minister of Public works, said that Agency's financial position was particularly difficult because of the general world economic situation and the deterioration in the relative rates received for African goods. But he pointed out that since its creation in 1960 the African financial contribution to the Agency had risen from 10 per cent to 60 per cent.

The two-day meeting, on July 19 and 20th, had the task of deciding how the increasing cost of the Agency should be most fairly distributed between the member states.

A statement issued after the meeting said the Ministers had considered the appointment of African director general to replace the Frenchman who at present occupies the position. the meeting decided to consider the topic again at a further meeting to be held in Dakar, Senegal.
