Background: Once the vast steppes in central Hungary were ruled by robbers. Today the 'Puszta' presents a peaceful scene. Well-fed herds pasture there, carefully tended by shepherds. To supplement the lack of natural fodder on the steppes, maize farms have been developed. These prove an oasis in the middle of often barren wastes and provide bulls and horses with food.
The pastoral scene is reminiscent of a by-gone age. Herdsmen still wear the colourful costumes, associated with characters in opera.
Hungarian 'cowboys' flash across the calm picture with a herd of wild mustangs.
