  • Description

It is Registration Day, August 11, at Toronto University, Canada for the delegates, nearly two hundred in number, who have come from the four corners of the earth to attend the twelve-day meeting of the International Junior Red Cross.

The delegates, all between the ages of fifteen and eighteen, speak either French, Spanish, or English, and are going to study every aspect of Red Cross work after Mr. Diefenbaker, Canada's Prime Minister, has opened the Conference on August 12.

Before that stage is reached however, it is necessary for each and every delegate to register officially and undergo a medical examination.

Three young people, from Korea, Canada and Yugoslavia are seen looking at a model of Toronto's new civic centre, whilst others were keen to make new friends and contacts before serious study begins.

The delegates will speak of the work the Red Cross is doing in their own particular countries, and then break up into groups to visit various Institutions in Canada to see the work going on there.

It will not be all study, however, for a bright and varied social programma has been arranged for the young visitors, including a trip to Niagara Falls and a performance of Shakespeare's "As you like it" at Stratford followed by a picnic on the River Avon.

The Conference will close August 22 with a Garden Party at Ottawa after which the delegates will return to their homelands.
