  • Description

Saigon gave a great sendoff to the last South Korean troops to leave Vietnam. The Republic of Korea first sent combat troops in 1965. They stayed on longer than any other of the allied forces fighting alongside the United States and South Vietnam. The last contingent to leave was mainly the staff of General Lee Sae Ho, commander of Korean forces in Vietnam. Among the senior Vietnamese officers who saw him off at Saigon airport was the chief of the Vietnamese army staff, General Cao van Vion. The departure was checked, under the ceasefire regulations, by officers of the Joint Military Commission set up under the Paris agreement.
