  • Description

A semi-official Pakistan newsfilm agency has just released film taken in East Pakistan. The commentary said that on April 13 a group of demonstrators marched through the capital, Dacca, in protest over the infiltration of armed men who it was claimed came from India. The procession was sponsored by the Dacca City Peace Committee. A similar demonstration was held in Comilla, about 70 miles (112 Kms) south west of Dacca. The commentary said that the All India Radio had reported the town was in the hands of the Bangla Desh. According to the agency's cameraman the town was peaceful and not all in the hands of "rebels". Another part of the film deals with Dacca University, which was reported to have been 75 per cent destroyed during fighting. The commentary says that the film shows this isn't true.

SYNOPSIS: Semi-official newsfilm agency film just received from Pakistan shows the situation as seen by its cameraman in Dacca. The commentary with the film said that demonstrators marched through the capital in protest over what was alleged to be infiltration by armed Indians.

The commentary said the demonstration was organised by the Dacca City Peace Committee. Prominent city leaders were reported to have taken part. The cameraman also visited the Dacca University. Reports said that it had virtually been destroyed and a number of students killed. But the official commentary said that it was untrue and all the important teaching departments were intact.

Another cameraman visited the town of Comilla, about 70 miles (112 Kms) south west of Dacca. The commentary says the town was peaceful and there was nothing to substantiate claims by the All India Radio that it was in the hands of the "rebels" and was badly damaged.

A demonstration, similar to that in Dacca, had been organised. An observer was reported as saying that foodstuffs were plentiful and people were taking advantage of the open restaurants.
