  • Description

A spokesman for the Palestinian Liberation Organisation said in Beirut on Sunday (18 September) that the PLO will have to be recognised by the United States as the sole legal representatives of the Palestinian people -- otherwise there would be 'no peace' in the Middle East. Mr. Mahmoud Labadi was speaking in PLO headquarters in the Lebanese capital as Egyptian Foreign Minister Ismail Fahmi was on his way to the United States for talks with President Jimmy Carter. He said the U.S.A. would have to recognise the rights of his people. Egypt and America are leading the current Mid-East peace initiative -- and Palestinian representation is one of the major obstacles to the conference table.
