    President Richard Nixon and British Prime Minister Edward Heath agreed, in Bermuda on Wednesday (21 December), on the need for the greatest allied understanding and unity in meeting the problems of a rapidly changing world and shifting balances of power.

    In a joint statement issued at the end of nine hours of intense private talks over two days, the leaders said the period ahead "will offer the free world both opportunity and challenge on an unprecedented scale."
    President Nixon, in a response to a statement by Mr. Heath to newsmen, said there would be a new Europe with Britain in it. He added that the United States was embarking on creating what was really a new America.
