    NEGROES IN THE AMERICAN STATE OF MISSISSIPPI ARE STILL BEING URGED TO REGISTER AS VOTERS DESPITE THREE REPORTED GUN ATTACKS ON ORGANISERS OF A CIVIL RIGHTS CAMPAIGN. THE REGISTRATION DRIVE IS BEING CONCENTRATED ON THE GREENWOOD AREA, WHERE NEGROES OUTNUMBER WHITES ALMOST TWO TO ONE.

    YESTERDAY (MONDAY), CAMPAIGN ORGANISERS MINGLED WITH THE CROWDS OF NEGROES WAITING TO RECEIVE HANDOUTS OF SURPLUS GOVERNMENT FOOD STOCKS. DISTRIBUTION HAD JUST RESUMED AFTER REPORTEDLY BEING CUT OFF BY POLITICAL PRESSURES. THE ORGANISERS URGED THE CROWD TO ATTEND A MASS MEETING ON REGISTRATION.

    AND THROUGHOUT THE DAY, NEGROES POURED IN A STEADY STREAM TO THE COUNTY COURT HOUSE TO REGISTER THEMSELVES AS VOTERS. FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGENTS ARE IN THE AREA INVESTIGATING RECENT RACIAL INCIDENTS.
