    A DELEGATION OF THE JAPANESE TOYOTA MOTOR FIRM IS IN SOUTH AFRICA INSPECTING ITS SUBSIDIARY PLANT AT DURBAN WHERE THE 10,000TH COMMERCIAL VEHICLE HAS JUST BEEN ASSEMBLED.

    THE COMPANY ARE BUILDING A CAR PLANT IN THE CITY AND BY APRIL OR MAY NEXT YEAR IT WILL BE IN PRODUCTION. THE NEW CAR WILL BE CALLED 'CORONA'.

    MR. HANAI, SAID THAT THE CAR WOULD BE OF A HIGH QUALITY AND THAT THE FIRM WAS DETERMINED TO PROVIDE EXCELLENT AFTER-SALES SERVICE. TO THIS END MORE THAN 220 DEALERS HAVE ALREADY BEEN APPOINTED IN SOUTH AFRICA.

    A TRAINING CENTRE IS TO BE ESTABLISHED AT TOYOTA'S DURBAN BASE. MR. HANAI IS ON HIS FIRST VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICA TO SEE THE FACTORY AND FINALISE ARRANGEMENTS FOR PRODUCTION OF THE CORONA.

    THE COMPANY OWNS A SECOND PROPERTY AT MOBENI AND MANUFACTURE MAY BE STARTED AT EITHER OF THE TWO FACTORIES. THE FIRM PLANS TO PROVIDE SKILLED JAPANESE TECHNICIANS BUT WILL ALSO MAKE AS MUCH USE AS POSSIBLE OF LOCAL LABOUR.
