Background: The U.S. Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger, on Monday (10 February) welcomed the Israeli cabinet's decision to continue with his step-by-step approach to a Middle East peace. But speaking on his arrival at Ben Gurion Airport, he stressed that America "is not committed to any particular approach."
He said the United States in prepared to explore other means and use other forums in order to make rapid progress. But he added that United States still believes the step-by-step approach is the most effective.
Dr. Kissinger, who was accompanied by his wife, Nancy, was met by Israeli Foreign Minister Yigal Allon and the U.S. Ambassador to Israel.
