President Omar Bongo of Gabon has described United States Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger's?

  • Description

President Omar Bongo of Gabon has described United States Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger's recent talks with South African Prime Minister John Vorster as a complete waste of time. President Bongo made the remarks during a private visit to France.

SYNOPSIS: On Friday (10 September), he was welcomed by a guard of honour when he went to the Elysee Palace in Paris to meet the French leader, President Valery Giscard D'Estaing. President Bongo was spending a total of three days in France. After his stay the Gabon President will fly to Mexico for an official visit at the invitation of President Luis Echeverria.

After his talks with South African Premier Vorster, Dr. Kissinger said conditions for negotiations towards the independence of Namibia and majority rule in Rhodesia now existed - but President Bongo had different ideas on the value of the talks.

President Bongo said the only solution for Africans was to fight. He said the Vorster-Kissinger talks were nonsense, a waste of time and just tourism. The Gabon President said Mr. Vorster would not change his policy. He was a racist through and through.

President Bongo said that since no kind of dialogue could succeed with South Africa, the Africans would take up arms and do as they had done in Angola.
