    AT PRESENT, 25 GRADUATES ARE STATIONED AT MOUNT MAKULU, ENGAGED ON ANALYTICAL WORK OF SOILS, CROPS, DISEASES AND MILK.

    THE STATION TESTS SOIL SAMPLES SENT IN BY ZAMBIAN FARMERS AND ADVISES THEM ON DEFICIENCIES.

    THE CHEMISTRY SECTION ANALYSES GROUNDNUTS TO CHECK ON THEIR LEVEL OF AFLATOXIN - A POISON CONTAINED IN MINUTE PROPORTIONS IN ALL GROUNDNUTS - TO SET THEIR PRICE LEVEL.

    MOUNT MAKULU RESEARCH STATION, WHICH IS A CHILANGA ABOUT 12 MILES (19 KMS) FROM THE CAPITAL, LUSAKA, WAS STARTED IN 1951 WITH A COMMONWEALTH GRANT OF GBP500,000 (STERLING).
