SEQ. 1: SARTAWI: "Liquidation of the PLO, which is synonymous with Palestinian genocide, as I said, calls for reshake the basis, the major basis, of the PLO in Syria and Lebanon. Also, it means that Fawd (phonetic) Nabil will be killed very soon as the Labour Party operatives in the early '70s killed Mahmoud Hamchari, our ambassador in Paris, was later our ambassador in Rome, as well as many other people. So, on the international scene, they will start knocking off Palestinian representatives. This is why I advise friends of Nabil, to have as much of him before Labour comes to power as possible. Now, this is not a crucial thing, because we can dispense with Nabil. I mean, when he becomes a martyr, (indistinct) is not going to evaporate. And the Labour Party knows that very well, therefore, they have to strike at the basic, at the main bases of the PLO in Syria and Lebanon. This means, therefore, an invasion of Syria and Lebanon....
...So, apart from de-populating the West Bank and Gaza, the Labour Party is, in reality, going to invade Syria and Lebanon."
Mr. Peres had talks in Paris on Thursday (22 January) with President Giscard d'Estaing and was scheduled to meet with the West German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt during his European visit.

Background: INTRODUCTION: A Palestinian leader has predicted that the Israeli Labour Party, if returned to power, would invade Syria and Lebanon. Mr. Issam Sartawi, who's member of the Palestine National Council, made this forecast on Friday (23 January) at a news conference in London. He also said an Israeli Labour government would liquidate leading Palestinian figures. The same day in London, the Israeli Labour Party leader, Mr. Shimon Peres, had talks with the British Foreign Minister, Lord Carrington, and visited Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher at 10 Downing Street. Sharing the platform with Mr. Sartawi at the Palestine Liberation Organisation's office was the P.L.O's London representative, Mr. Nabil Ramlawi, who was prominently featured in Mr. Sartawi's speech.
SYNOPSIS: At Downing Street, Mr. Pere's visit followed his talks with Lord Carrington and the British Minister for Middle East Affairs, Mr. Douglas Hurd. Diplomatic correspondents said Mr. Peres had been treated in London like a visiting head of state. His party, and other opposition allies, are expected to come to power in a coalition government after the forthcoming general election in Israel.
