    Third seeded Arthur Ashe from the United States won his first round game at Wimbledon on Monday (22 June) in Straight sets against Graham Stilwell from Australia.

    Ashe, who has been beaten by Wimbledon Champion Rod Laver in the semi-final in the last two years, had no trouble against Stilwell winning 6-3, 6-2, 6-1.

    The Negro star played before a large crowd in perfect opening day weather. Ashe is one of 54 United States players competing in this year's Wimbledon--23 of them are women. Stilwell was one of the Australian team of 20 women and 36 men.
