    PALMER WAS GIVEN ONE OF THE BIGGEST THRASHINGS OF HIS ILLUSTRIOUS CAREER BY CHARLES. PALMER WON ONLY FOUR HOLES AGAINST THE LANKY NEW ZEALANDER, WHO PLAYED SUPERBLY DESPITE TERRIBLE WEATHER AND A WATERLOGGED COURSE.

    TONY JACKLIN SHOWED BIG MATCH TEMPERAMENT IN SQUARING HIS MATCH WITH PLAYER. AFTER HE WAS TWO DOWN WITH ONLY THREE HOLES TO PLAY. PLAYER ENDED UP NEEDING TO SINK A FOUR FOOT PUTT ON THE 36TH TO WIN THE MATCH BY COULDN'T HOLE IT.
