At a ceremony at the military airport of Ivato in Tananarive, the French Ambassador to the Malagasy Republic, M. Alain Plantey, yesterday (Tuesday) presented two Cessna 337 aircraft to the Armed Forces - represented by General Gabriel Ramanantsoa, Chief of Staff of the Malagasy Army.
The Malagasy Army maintains an Air Force of several French aircraft, including Dassaults and C 47s, and the two Cessnas are the first of four which are destined to replace the old Broussards on patrol service along the Malagasy coastlines.
France also maintains an air squadron and several thousand soldiers in the Malagasy Republic, in accordance with a defence agreement between the two countries, and they were represented at the handing-over ceremony by General de Seguin Pazzis, Commander of the French Forces in the Southern Zone of the Indian Ocean.
The Cessna 337 aircraft are fully-equipped with the most up-to-date equipment and have a wide range of action.
