SYNOPSIS: A week after the fall of Dacca, provisional leaders of the self-styled Bangladesh Government flew into the city from India on Wednesday. They were led by the acting President, Mr. Syed Nazrul Islam. Accompanying him on the flight from Calcutta were Prime Minister Tajjudin Ahmed, other Bangladesh Ministers and officials of the Awami League. Though only a few hundred people were at the airport, they gave their leaders a rapturous reception. Their arrival coincided with the release of Awami League leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from a prison over a thousand miles away in West Pakistan, but still under house arrest.

India -- having provided the military aircraft to transport the Bangladesh leaders -- the following day sent an envoy, Mr. Dhar, who's a close confident of Prime Minister Mrs. Gandhi and a top official of India's Externa Affairs Ministry. Mr. Dhar became the first Ambassador to present his credentials to the Bangladesh government. Mrs. Gandhi has this week repeated India's pledge to help rebuild the war-shattered economy of the region. She said that an assessment of the amount of aid required was already underway, and she looked forward to a time when Delhi and Dacca would be able to build up trade and communications.
