    SYNOPSIS: In the first strike that hit NYC today 30 thousand hospital workers Struck 48 private hospitals and many began shutting down all but emergency and patient support services/ Some recuperating patients who might have been kept in hospital for a longer period were discharged because the nursing staffs were so badly taxed by the added workload. after 8 months of negotiation talks finally broke off between the daily news and its editorial employees shortly before 7 o'clock this morning. and the people who put out the nation's biggest circulation morning newspaper hit the street. Union leader said the strike could spread to the NY Times. officials of the n.y. newspaper guild said a wide range of wage and fringe benefit issues were at stake when the talks fell apart.

    The union said the city had made only one offer in more than 5 months of tasks and that was rejected this moaning, Following the closed union rally, the union president said the strike had been set for 8:30 tomorrow morning, until then. the city and the union have time to bargain.
